Hi, all,
There is no class on the coming Monday, and happy Mardi Gras holiday. Next class is on Monday, 2/18. There is no due work on that class. However, you should prepare for:

(1) Quiz based on the handout for Mechanical Testing: Tensile Testing; (2) Formal Lab Report, which is due on 3/4. The report consists of two classes of Mechanical Testing (Hardness & Impact, Tensile).

Most of you did a good job on last Quiz. Some of you may have difficulties for the first experiment on X-ray Crystal Structure Analysis. I will give you comments next class when I return your first reports.

I got lots of good suggestions on improving this lab class from your last Quiz. Some of them are:
1. all get an A in this class. (I will try, most important, you should try and deserve it)
2. ask more questions. (good, you are encouraged to come by my office often, CEBA 2504)
3. explain things precisely. (I will explain not only on what and how to do, but also on why do so.)
4. do not require too much time for the lab reports. (If you spend more time read and understand the handout, you know what we are doing in the class, the report should not cost much time.)
5. elaborate more on the process, the science behind it. (since this is a lab class, I can not go deep into the science behind, but I will try to explain things clearly and simply. You should ask questions when you can not understand.)
6. see where all the information applied. (good suggestions, ask me questions!)
7. explain what is expect of students and be lenient. (I will try to improve my teaching)
8. do all the reading and donŐt wait the last time to do the report. (Yes, you all should do that.)
9. speak up. (OK, I will)
10. try to understand the material to the best of your knowledge. (Yes, try your best and come ask me if has questions)

Can you response to me how you understand the handouts? How much percentage of them you have learned before in the theoretical classes?

Have a good day and enjoy study!

Honglai.
