This information is used to provide a new way to deduce the cohomology of an arbitrary finite group from the cohomology of its p-subgroups, and also to give a new proof of the main results of Benson-Feshbach and Martino-Priddy on the stable decomposition of classifying spaces. The method of computing cohomology has the feature that it simultaneously gives a formula for all finite groups with a given Sylow p-subgroup. Journal: J. Pure Appl. Algebra 88 (1993), 265-304.
