shawn baland’s math page

This page is continuously under development, due greatly to the youth of my career. I’ll always be looking for new and interesting material for the purpose of making it newer and more interesting. Apologies in advance for any instances of shameless self promotion you may encounter here.

Background and research interests

I’m a third-year PhD student in mathematics at the University of Aberdeen. I specialize in the modular representation theory of elementary abelian p-groups. In particular, I am interested in modules of constant Jordan type and their relations to algebraic geometry. My supervisor is Professor David Benson.

Prior to arriving in Aberdeen, I studied for my BA in mathematics at the University of Colorado at Boulder. My honors project was on the classification of the finite-dimensional complex simple Lie algebras; my advisor was Professor Arlan Ramsay.
