Professors of Natural Philosophy at the Universities of Aberdeen *

John Seaton MA

Like Sibbald, whom he succeeded in 1626, Seaton signed himself as Professor of Natural Philosophy and was responsible for teaching the 4th year class (the Magistrands). A number of graduation thesis exist for the students in his classes (typically about 10). There is no direct record of what he taught and he was appointed as Minister of the gospel at Kemnay (about 15 miles NW of Old Aberdeen) no later than 1641. Afterwards he became Minister of Foveran (11 miles NNE of Old Aberdeen) and died in 1666.
