The Class Diplopoda

Millipedes

8000 species
The millipede's horny outer layer forms a hard armour which is used in head-on burrowing. There are two pairs of mouth-parts, and simple seven segment antennae. The body segments are cylindrical and joined together in pairs, each bearing two pairs of legs. The longest millipede has no more than 200 legs. Millipedes are usually herbivorous, and are found all over the world.
