This is a seriously useful idea for
those of us doing research which might occasionally require high levels of
computing power and would like to perform large parallel loops.
For instance: the major work on Testing
the Stability of Realized Covariance Matrices: Evidence From Four Markets
was compiled using a local 8 processor XEON workstation. However the EC2
environment offers more power and the same capability at a far lower fixed cost
(it is all variable, use it when you want to).
