What's wrong with logic (2014)

“Concepts without percepts are empty” (Kant)

This is the crispest criticism I’ve seen of the logic approach to AI,
Or semantic web.

It is not enough to know an egg is from a fish or bird,
Or to have other logical facts written about it (you can never write enough – your toddler always knows more).
You need to be able to simulate it perceptually,
To see its shape in your mind’s eye, to feel its surface and weight,
To imagine what happens if you drop it on surfaces or if you put things on top, or break off a piece of shell to use for something.
