For all the newbies post up any experience, why you joined AUCC and what you hope to gain from the experience :wink:

For us Old Skoolers a chance to remind what went before :roll:

Started paddling with Brechin High School Canoe Club, moved onto Aberdeen Kayak Club and Uni. Was elevated to AUCC Captain during my second year. Involved in various roles in WWR; Slalom and Polo, served on the SCA & BCU Boards being SCA president for a number of years. Involved in organising and leading trips to the Spanish Pyrenees (2) and French Alps (4). Still involved and paddling in Aberdeen currently Chair of AKC, was a level 3 coach but need to update - not sure I can be bothered with the crap that goes with UKCC status :-x Been paddling up to Grade V for about 30 years and never needed a bit of paper to say I was good enough :wink:

Doubt if any current AUCC paddler will really remember me - probably more likely your parents as that Captaincy was back 1979-80 so very OLD SKOOL :shock: .

Try to stay in touch with AUCC so that I can pass on information I receive about events in the area, get called for specialist coaching from time to time. One day I may even join you on the river! May give the wild parties a miss though

Actually yeah Gregsy might be good idea if you make an intro thread and/or sub-forum for those that want to introduce themselves.

Hey, I'm Calum, figure this is the place to say that!
I've just joined the club at the freshers fair. I'm a first year Law student, living in Hector Boece halls.
I've been paddling for 13 years now, started young n that eh? Started on rivers, then moved into slalom, did a stint in the scottish team for that, been easing back into rivers again since, I'm pretty confident big water paddler.
Also, shot in the dark here, is anyone heading across to the etive race on saturday cause i'm in desperate need of a lift to save me from having to take the train home first?

I don't know of anyone from AUCC going, it might be worth asking if any Aberdeen Kayak Club guys are going and have a free space.

Ahright sweet, was worth a try eh? Went paddling with some lads yesterday and one of them thinks he knows someone so i think itll be decent, cheers anyway

That said I have to wonder if the Etive river race is going to get anywhere. The chat at WWPF was that people weren't happy it was moved to the upper last year because it was too high, this year it looks like it'll be too low.

Apologies for not replying, but I was busy with other things.

I don't think there were many from AKC participating this year. Last year there were a number involved in the Rescue side but I didn't hear of many being involved this year.

Noticed you and Simon didn't manage to keep the ERR title - must try harder.

Enjoy your student life in Aberdeen - it can be fun!

Yeah it was a bit of a downer on that, got decently raped in letterbox, we should have practiced this year! Also got myself a tasty flat landing on right angle giving myself a nice sore back, good times!
When are AUCC pool sessions? and when are the river trips? Been out a couple of times with the northeast paddlers, but would like to get a bit more involved in the uni club too!

Pool Sessions are Tuesdays and Fridays, Club trips are Saturdays and Sundays. Harder trips are organised ad hoc until after freshers weekend (last weekend of october) get along to the pool tomorrow night and speak to bisexual Sandy.
